Jay, I think I've mentioned this website to you before, but these are quotes from the bulletin board at raptureready.com (rr-bb.com). I really hope that the quotes below aren't reflective of most dispensationals and I certainly hope they aren't reflective of most Christians. I know this is just a message board, but this site gets quite a bit of traffic and has over 10,000 registered members on the message board. However, the traffic to the site has gone down considerably since the summer war between Israel and Hezbollah (http://alexa.com/data/details/traffic_d ... =rr-bb.com).
Topic: "Anyone feel like it's just over?"
"I heard a pastor, (not sure who) on the radio the other day talking about how bad it is here on earth. He said something in his sermon that stayed with me.
He said,
"It's a dump down here. We gotta get outa here."
"Exciting times for sure and it will get worse..............but we won't be here!"
"Yep. A couple of days ago, said a prayer. Told Him I was tired and wanted to go home and be with Him and my family that has left us."
"I hope it all happens soon, very soon. Both because I think we live in a dump here also and because my Mom passed away in March and I just want to be with her. I know there are still good things happening on this earth but they seem to be far and few between. Can you imagine what it will be like here on earth when it does get worse??"
"I think things will get much, MUCH worse while we are still here."
"I feel so ran-down, just running on fumes, ya know? need to get outta here.................."
"I agree SpeedRacer,I think there is some time yet before we see the rapture... I can't say when but soon but not like today or tomorrow... I can't wait to meet Jesus in the clouds...think I'm safe to say i think it will be in our lifetime..."
"Why would we think we are "that" close? Look at NK, China, Uganda, Sudan....we're still in luxery. It can, and will, get worse...IMHO. We still have choices, we still have open churches, we still have the ability to watch/listen/buy/move/worship. Yup, I think it will get worse and we got a job to do at each step of the way. Every time the depravity gets worse, another tragedy hits, another contraction occurs....we have more fruit to harvest."
"I do feel like it can get worse, but I am soooo weary. I try to make the best of things and try and be optimistic in life and get involved in making things better. But for me, personally, I just don't have the same feelings about things anymore. like I used to love to take pictures and scrapbook and have a ton of photo albums, and I just lost interest the past few months. I used to like to plan family get-togethers, or outings with friends, and its kind of like I don't care as much anymore. Just a lot of different types of things I have lost interest in, and it kind of makes me sad. But I still put a smile on my face and reach out to others whenever I can.
I'm just soooo ready to be reunited with Jesus, and my mom and a bunch of other family members......
(Also, financially, its almost more than I can bare, we've never been this bad off financially, I know Michigan in general seems to be doing pretty bad.)"
Finally, someone comes along and tries to knock some sense into these people...
"I am so disappointed to read all this whining and whimpering by 'we who are suppose to be soldiers for Christ'. Strap on your shoes, fasten your armour, and get some back bone - brothers and sisters. Do you think that the Lord has placed us in this period of time to act this way?
If anything, we should be supporting one another with strength and encouragement. What good is salt if it has lost its flavor?
Our Lord has the victory! Rejoice and forge ahead in His strength so that we will more clearly see His Will for us, as well as His wonderous deeds!
Yes - it is a great time to be alive in Jesus. Let us stand on our feet and make Him proud !"
Oh and by the way, they're very accepting of alternative views...
"Oh and Franklin? You have been told countless times to post in the Rapture Doctrine Discussion forum because you are not Pre-trib. Your posting rights have now been removed."
These posters further prove the fact that the doctrine of a pre-tribulation is simply escapism. In fact, wanting to leave the Earth now is, in effect, greedy. God does have us here for a purpose, to carry out His work. Apparently, since we are still here, there is still work to be done. But these people want out. God didn't intend for us to whine about how bad things are. Not to mention the fact that they are believing in a doctrine that is not even taught in one verse in the Bible.
Second, things aren't even that bad in the first place. These people are acting like we're living in the times of the Great Depression and Black Death combined. We have had MUCH, MUCH worse economic times than this one. We have had wars worse than these. The United States and most of the rest of the world is living in a time of prosperity, if anything.
I thought it was funny that they mention China as a country that is "torturing" their people and is economically depraved. China certainly doesn't value very many personal freedoms, but they don't "torture." China's economy is becoming more properous and capitalistic by the day as a result of foreign investment, mostly from the US. This ultimately is a good thing; moderate the Communist government, liberalize the society; the Gospel spreads. This isn't to say that the US is investing in China so we can convert them (we're not doing that at all), but that could be an indirect result.
The pessimism from these people is just sickening. If they are so down on things, then they should be behaving as Paul and Silas, singing praises to God while in prison. I don't understand how people can act like this, especially around the Christmas season.
Thoughts from anyone?
