Colombian Pastor Resists Threats from Drug Dealers

MENDELLIN, Colombia (EP) – Dr. Miguel Mosquera, a full time lawyer, pastor and president of Colombian Christian Alliance, has been an outspoken opponent of drugs and refuses to back down from threats by drug cartels. When the callers make threats, he answers, “You cannot kill me unless God allows it.”

In the midst of a “war” between drug cartels and the Colombian government, Mosquera has confirmed his intentions to fight drugs in Colombia. Scores of people in the legal profession, including legal secretaries, court clerks, and reporters attend meetings conducted by Mosquera several days a week in downtown law offices in Mendellin.

During the meetings they study the Bible and pray over the noon hour. Then they return to work, operating the judicial system which functions in the shadow of Colombia’s most powerful drug cartel, which openly admits responsibility for the assassinations of judges and the destructions of courthouses.

Mosquera’s work and influence as a lawyer and pastor has earned him the hostility of drug dealers, particularly after the conversion of one dealer with whom Mosquera had contact. Telephone threats followed, but Mosquera asserts that “this is the time to go to work.”
