A Note on Stephen Jay Gould

He’s been called “America’s most well-known evolutionist” by many; he is also evolution’s leading theoretician and radical thinker. This Harvard zoologist has proposed the idea of punctuated equilibrium as a response to the randomness of natural selection.
The fossil record doesn’t quite bear out what Darwin said. So Gould has been telling his colleagues, “Come on, let’s see what the fossil record really does show and then explain that.” Instead of saying what other evolutionists have said, “We’re still missing some links; we’ve got to dig some more to prove our theory.”
According to Gould, what the record shows is that changes in evolutionary development are quite sudden. Imagine that. New models have all of a sudden appeared in fossils, rather than with a whole lot of easy, rather imperceptible, steps.
The Creator of the Universe has this reply: “He who sits in the heavens laughs” (Psalms 2:4).
