BEDFORD, VA (FR) - A convenience store owner in this small Virginia town near Roanoke burned a pornographic video after hearing of convicted serial killer Ted Bundy's confession about how pornography fueled his rape and murder habit.
"I don't want to send them back. I want to burn them," said Kenneth Patterson about the videocassettes he had for rent in his store. "I just want to pour a can of gasoline on them. I don't want anyone to see them." Killer Ted Bundy was interviewed by Christian psychologist Dr. James Dobson only hours prior to his execution in January of this year. Bundy told Dobson that pornography was at the root of his problem, and challenged Americans to deal with pornography as a deterrent to crime.
"(Ted Bundy) said there are people like him who watch these movies and a part of their brain snaps," said Patterson, a father of two. "You think of your kids, other people's kids. We just discontinued renting them and any kind of pornography completely. I don't need it. Society doesn't need it. We're going to stick with the family type."
Patterson had been renting the pornographic videos for the past five years, but said he did not care if he lost customers. "I don't want any part of this type of garbage. Those kids are more important than money. I might lose some business but I think I'll gain in the long run. Money is not the question," he stated.
