Campeones para Cristo en Centro América

GAINESVILLE, Florida (FR) – En la primavera de 1991, el evangelista Franco Gennaro y su compañero, Felipe Steele, fueron autorizados a realizaruna reunión evangélica en el aún campo comunista de la Universidad de Nicaragua. Mientras murales y pinturas de Sandino y de la causa Sandinista todavía adornaban los corredores, afuera del auditorio de la universidad, Gennaro predicaba la Palabra de Jesucristo. El director de actividades de la universidad dijo que permitiría que la reunión se realizara sin problemas porque el sentía que sería bueno para los estudiantes escuchar otros puntos de vista.
“Nuestro encuentro fue la primera reunión religiosa autorizada en ese campo universitario,” dijo Gennaro con entusiasmo. “No solamente muchos profesores y estudiantes asistieron por curiosidad, sino que muchos expresaron un interés en conocer más acerca de Jesús, y nos dieron una invitación abierta para volver.”
La organización de Gennaro y Steele, “Campeones para Cristo,” es un Ministerio que está teniendo un impacto en la juventud centroamericana. Con un énfasis primario en dicha juventud, Gennaro y sus campeones concentraron sus esfuerzos en los colegios y campos universitarios.
Como un Ministerio de servicio, tanto en Latinoamérica como en los Estados Unidos, “Campeones para Cristo” está dedicado a proveer soluciones bíblicas a los problemas que enfrentan los jóvenes y las familias del mundo hoy día. El Ministerio utiliza varios recursos como mimos, drama, testimonio, música y seminarios con multimedias en lugares públicos, tales como colegios, universidades, barrios y áreas rurales. Pero el trabajo no termina con el evangelismo “Campeones para Cristo” también capacita a jóvenes creyentes para hacer el trabajo del Ministerio y para tener un impacto en su propia generación.
La importancia estratégica de llegar a los campos universitarios de Centro América es crucial, enfatiza el joven director de “Campeones para Cristo,” “son las mismas áreas donde los comunistas y narcotraficantes están activamente tratando de influenciar a la juventud. Estos mismos estudiantes serán los futuros Noriegas, Fidel Castros y Daniel Ortegas.”
Por la naturaleza del sistema político en Centro América, gran parte de este tipo de actividad subversiva es permitida en los campos universitarios sin problemas, a causa de la autonomía de estos. Sin embargo el hambre por el evangelio entre los estudiantes es evidente. Pero según Gennaro, muy pocos misioneros se atreven siquiera a poner un pie en los campos Centroamericanos.
“Una de las debilidades del movimiento misionero en América en los últimos 100 años es que hemos fallado en alcanzar a los futuros líderes de los países Latinoamericanos: la juventud!.” Gennaro asegura: “la mayoría de los misioneros o bien alcanzan a los muy pobres o a los indios en la jungla centroamericana y sin minimizar la importancia de esto, el hecho es que 95% de aquellos que serán los líderes de la sociedad – los hacedoros y padres de la patria – están en estos momentos estudiando en los colegios y universidades de Centro América.”
Las estadísticas nos muestran que el 60% de Centro América tiene menos de 25 años de edad. La organización de Gennaro “Campeones para Cristo,” está dedicada a transformar este campo de cosecha: uno que ha sido virtualmente desatendido por el trabajo misionero. A pesar de que sus recursos financieros son limitados, “Campeones para Cristo” ha visto tremendos resultados.
En la universidad de Panamá, directivos de la escuela recibieron a los evangelistas y les permitieron total acceso a las instalaciones en el área central del campo. Un seminario con multimedios que exponía la influencia satánica detrás de mucha de la música Rock and Roll, fue ofrecido a un auditorio repleto de estudiantes latinoamericanos.
En Honduras, muchos estudiantes fueron salvos como respuesta a la predicación al aire libre en el centro del campo universitario. Evangelistas de “Campeones para Cristo” retaron a los estudiantes a “convertirse en parte de la verdadera revolución: revolución de amor a través del poder de Jesucristo.”
En uno de los más grandes colegio de Costa Rica, orientadores de la escuela hicieron un llamado a una asamblea obligatoria de más de 1.800 estudiantes. Cerca de 350 estudiantes dieron sus nombres, direcciones y teléfonos al evangelista diciéndole que querian ser parte del estudio bíblico en el campo.
Además Cuba, Peru y Colombia han sido el centro de los trámites de “Campeones por Cristo.” Otras ventanas de oportunidad continuaron abriéndose en muchos campos estudiantiles.
Dice Gennaro: “usualmente el rector de la escuela suspendería actividades y citaría a una asamblea obligatoria a la totalidad del cuerpo estudiantil. La respuesta ha sido abrumadora de que cientos de estudiantes respondieran al mensaje de salvación.”
Con muchas puertas abiertas para ir a colegios, universidades y áreas rurales con multimedios, películas y Ministerio creativo, “Campeones para Cristo” está encontrando imposible el cumplir con todas las demandas. Este amplio y enriquecedor campo de misión es estratégico en este momento. El plan de Gennaro para compensar por la falta de misioneros americanos entre la juventud centroamericana, es entrenar a nacionales para que hagan el trabajo y para que instruyan a las iglesias locales a cooperar en programas de evangelización.
